Originally, we had hoped to officially open the Halliday Bar as we re-opened after the first lock-down, in August 2020. The first two photographs in the gallery were taken at that time by Tracie Thomas, showing John Puddle (former Bugle Major and branch committee member; he had originally suggested that we dedicate the name of our bar to Lewis Stratford Tollemache Halliday as a recipient of the Victoria Cross in 1901) and Lesley Simpson took charge of the commissioning of the commemorative story-board and the bar sign.
Moving forward to July 2021, the unveiling of the commemorative storyboard took place in the club with club and branch members present. Guests were from the Halliday family; Roger Halliday (grandson) and his daughter Kathryn (great granddaughter). Granddaughters Alison Sutherland and Catriona Berrell nee Sutherland and husband Sean. Also, attending were our President Colonel David Storrie (retd) OBE and Tony Davies from the Corps Historical Society. The afternoon was opened by the Club Chair Paul Richardson who welcomed all attending and thanked everyone that had been involved in the project. In particular Bob Guest and Mark Simpson who had lead on the refurbishing work. Branch Chair Anita Lignum read a summary of the life of Halliday including the actions that led to him receiving the VC. Everyone received a tot of rum and Colonel Storrie led the toast. Light refreshments were provided in the upstairs Gibraltar Room.
With thanks to Bob Davies for photographs.
