Armistice Day is always held on 11 November the day that

the guns fell silent to bring to an end the Great War (WW1)

in 1918. An act of Remembrance was held at the War Graves

Memorial in Hamilton Rd Cemetery at 1045hrs.

This annual event is organised by the Deal (Downs) Branch

of the Royal British Legion. The service was officiated by

The Reverend John Lines MBE assisted by RBL Chairman

Edward Barkway and the Remembrance secretary Malcolm Gibbons.

The music was provided by a group of former RM musicians,

the bugle calls were sounded by Mick Scurfield and our Branch

Standard was paraded by Paul Hardy. The Branch wreath was

laid by our Chairman Anita Lignum and Deal Wrens by Ross

Russell. There was a good turnout of former RMs and Wrens and

also a large group of school children from many different Deal

schools which was wonderful to see.
